Went for a long drive with my Dad today. He is smarter than me, and I don’t always understand how he communicates.

We got a bit lost. I told him which way to go but he kept going another way. We eventually found the bank I was trying to reach, but it wasn’t the path I expected.

Destination unknown.

Thoughts today about male sensitivity. We hear that women like men who are strong but sensitive.

I have a distinct memory of one of Mohammad Atta’s relatives saying after the 9/11 killings that he was “sensitive.” So I  guess it can lead you to being a mass murderer.

I have been educated a lot in literature. We tend to think of ourselves as more sensitive than others. Sometimes I am not so sure.

I would talk about the news, but the coronavirus story has bored me so much I haven’t paid much attention to it. That may sound callous.

How much do men say to women when they are trying to be intimate? I guess the smart ones say as little as possible. Haha. But I have heard the FBI uses prostitutes as witnesses a lot because criminal men will tell them things.

I have said personal things to women when it seemed like there might be romance. It is a bit sad. I think it is better to have the courage to keep things to yourself.

Thoughts today about the difference between reason and emotion. They both matter. I think Aristotle said character matters more than either one.

Have been thinking about it because I have been listening to a lot of emotional music lately. It can be seductive.

It is better to read books. I have a few waiting to be read. One by an Orlando novelist writing about the economic development of that city, one by  this famous UVa English professor Mark Edmundson, one a collection of essays by Bret Easton Ellis. Need to get to it.

Thoughts today about Pink Floyd. I know they are a divisive group, some love and some hate.

I think they were a good band even if they may have gone on a bit too long with their act. I thought “The Wall” was a profound attempt to connect personal psychological problems with political insanity.

I think Aristotle first wrote about ethics, then politics. You have to be sane first.

Thoughts today on the difference between flirtation and polygamy. I have been accused of being a polygamist by some women. They may just be being playful.

I am not married but have flirted a lot. It isn’t ideal and has cost me a lot of money, but as long as it is consensual it is okay, IMO.

Polygamy seems like a male fantasy. I agree with monogamy as our culture teaches us.

Should prostitution be legal? My short answer is no. It can demean women and be horrible for women’s and men’s health.

But the issue is complex. How close does the acting and modelling business get to prostitution? And dating websites seem a bit like going to see prostitutes.

The basic question is whether men and women are hurting each other. I guess the Me Too movement complicated that question.

Sometimes it is hard to write anything more. I guess great writers like Fitzgerald and Hemingway were very industrious in their way, even though they both had problems.

I haven’t been reading much lately. I do still get up early. I listen to a lot of music. I think musical lyrics can be just as smart as written language. But there is a notion that music is immoral, seductive.

It’s like technology. It’s in the way that you use it.

Thoughts today about differences in temperature and temperament. Sometimes it will feel like you will almost melt here. My joke about Singapore is the best business there was air-conditioning.

I think the difference between southern California and Florida is interesting. Both are hot, but I think it drives more Floridians crazy. I’m Floridian myself and have my own issues.

We have also produced some interesting pop about how warm climate and, I guess, decadence can affect you. The Eagles and the Allman Brothers for instance.

Thoughts today about the blessings and curses of technology. Of course the “go-to” line about technology is that it is in the way that you use it. I am currently having a lot of trouble getting these blogs visible on my website. I’m simply stupid about machines and numbers.

Technology has also produced the globalized world we live in today. “Some good, some bad,” is a comment I once heard. There was also a good advertising slogan a while back from, I think, British Airways: “There’s more that brings us together.” Meaning, I guess, get out of your shell and travel.

Have a good weekend.
