A poem and a memory

“Pear” by yours truly

Grow a pear!
Grow a pear!
We are not referring to genitals,
But you may need that too.
Pear not pair.
Pears can be lovely fruit.

Comment

When vacationing in downtown London
In college
I was sleeping on the top part of a bunk bed
In a rental house share,
The couple below me, Australians I think.
But their loud sex made it hard to sleep.

Note: I like Australia. ” Down Under” by Men at Work is one of my favorite pop songs. And I like the Mad Max movies and a few other pop songs.

Two poems

“Condense” by yours truly

Condensation in isolation.
Water on a wood table.
Dry it if you’re able.
And condense your words.
Say no more than needed or readed
“You should have said read, Almost Dead Ed.”
But that does not rhyme with needed.
In conclusion, keep it brief:
Pain relief.

“Comeback Kid” by yours truly

Sometimes things come back to me
Like a poetic (or painful) memory.
Are they really poems?
You can see (or not as you choose)
And decide.

Just one more poem for now

“Greybeard Part Two” by yours truly

“May I say something odd?”

“Okay.”

“I have grown a full beard now. It was only partial when younger. It has grown out and is mostly grey except the moustache which is stil brown.”

“I would like to see it and maybe even kiss it.”

“The beard does itch a bit. Your kisses could help.”

“Let the beard keep growing, and the itching may stop.”

Three poems

1) “Gag” by yours truly

Gag order.
Keep it in order,
Or we may need to invade your border
And take down your violent talk
With a tape recorder.
All in order?
“No, mental disorder.”

2) “Wind” by yours truly

Wind storm
Quite the norm here
Even blows cars over in Central Asia on steppes I hear.
These things we will explore them.
Calm before the wind storm.

3) “White” by yours truly

White sky,
A few winds and some low clouds.
I Iike the clouds and winds
Like old friends left behind
Or maybe not.

4) “Still” by yours truly
Still and soft clouds
Under clear blue sky,
A few birds.
Chilly winds
What portends.
Go back indoors.

Just one joke today

What did the lonely bachelor say to the pizza baking in his oven as a pick-up line? “Do you come here oven?”

Four poems

Sometimes poems gestate at night for me. It may seem crazy to you, but it is true for me. If you think the poems are irritating crap then just don’t read them.

1) “What” by yours truly

What is it men
Want from women?
“She moves in mysterious ways.” – U2
But they have a mysterious pull.
“The mysterious distance between
A man and a woman.” – U2 again

2) “Eight” by yours truly

Eight hours,
Supposed to be how so long you should work
They say, so they say.
But what does work really mean anyway?
Resisng gravity.
As best you can.
Best you can.

3) “Blank” by yours truly

Blank screen, blank screen.
Nothing more to say, nothing more to mean.
Just let the heart still ping
Or even sing.

4) “Out Part Two” by yours truly

“I will be out of the office.
Until blah, blah, blah.
Please leave a message,
So I can get back to you on
The fifth of Never.

Another few jokes
.
“When in poem, do as the poem-mens do.” — John Jacob Jingle-Heimer Schmidt

“We are calling from the financial-aid help line. We only want lots of personal information from you and will get back to you on the fifth of Never.”

“This is Social Security, and we are calling to help, but the funny/sad thing is we will not help at all, only bother you.”

Three new poems and a joke

1) “Family Disputes” by yours truly

I have had some family disputes recently
For being unemployed or self-employed at home.
For mainly health problems.
My older brother got mad at me recently
For sharing brief poems on email.
I replied you do not have to read them.
It’s not like he does not have
More email spam from total strangers.
But I have stopped sending the poems.
I told a friend recently
My older brother is intuitive,
And I am nerdy.

2) “Sky” by yours truly

The sky is a bit dull this evening,
A blue sky with low white clouds
And a few small birds.
Words for nerds.
My brother says my writing is mentally fractured.
I replied a university professor said once
That Modernism is about fragmentation.

3) “Loud” by yours truly

Loud cars on the dark, busy street outside.
May be a sign of pride, machismo.
This is the U.S. Southwest.
The Chinese speak of dragons as metaphors for men
And flowers or gardens for women.

A joke

“I will gladly pay you Thursday for a pistachio or a few more today.” –Wimpy from the “Popeye” cartoon

Two poems and a comment

“Passport” by yours truly

Keep a valid US passport,
Keep a passport.
You may want to get out
Without fear or doubt.

“Sparkles” by yours truly

Colorful sparkles
On a parked car window
From sunlight, so bright.
Like a silent firecracker,
After her, after her.

A comment

Sometimes people like me get ideas for poems, but they can go out of your mind before you have time to write them down or organize them for publication. C’est la vie.

Just one poem

“Beard” by yours truly

It is odd how for some men (like me)
Beards can feel like barbed wire.
It makes one want to retire.
Crown of thorns on the face.
“Don’t disgrace or I
Will spray your face with mace!”
