Two poems and a comment

“Three-date Rule” by yours truly
“Have you heard of the three-date rule in the U.S.?”
“No, please explain it.”
“Well, it means on the first two in-person dates a couple is just getting to know one another, but on the third date things can get more serious.”
“Online or not, I think we are now past the first two dates.”

On breakups

Thinking about romantic breakups because of two songs.
One is Dido’s song called “White Flag” about breaking up with someone she loves.

That goes, “I won’t go down with this ship/ I won’t put up a white flag and surrender.” Blink-182 also have a song called “Dammit” that is good about dealing with romantic breakup. As a teenager I also really liked The Cure song “In Between Days” on this topic.

“Blue” by yours truly
Blue pen, begin again.
Black pen, Finnegan and again.
Red pen, we may have to correct it Jack.
Blue or black, welcome back to writing Jack.
It’ll be better than living in a sack.
Yackety yack.
Do talk back.
We want you back.

Just a chore today but also two poems

“Garlic Powder” by yours truly
Put garlic powder
On the cooked pizza
Then you can meet her.
Don’t have dinner with her tonight,
But she could have appetite for…
Just a date movie.
Dress well and don’t be late, you,
Or she may berate you, even hate you.
Take her out her, lost without her.
Maybe after, some drinks, methinks.

“Low Clouds” by yours truly
Low white clouds over foothills.
Air warming but still some wind chills
And snow seen from window sills.
(No more pills).
And the sunshine is almost blinding
From behind at this time of day.
Sunsets
And no regrets.

This is a comment that came to mind partly because I have some tinnitus that causes a buzzing sound even when you are in environmental silence.

“Silence” was the name of a novel by a Japanese author (there was a recent Hollywood movie version of it) about Western Christian missionaries whom are effectively muted by Japanese authorities.

Increasingly I prefer silence to noise like movies or music, but I still like music at times. As one of my drivers said, “peace and quiet.” Memory and imagination.

I said to an Asian online girlfriend a while back that Westerners sometimes feel guilty because we feel we are imposing our culture on you. She broke up with me.

Also, my roommate first year of college was able to do complex engineering homework while listening to heavy metal music. I could barely read without near-total silence.

“Stretch” by yours truly
Stretch out
Like yoga.
I could hold ya’
Within, without.
Don’t pout.
Leave no doubt.
“Brief candle, out, out.”
Don’t drink a whole handle
In one day come what may.

A comment and a poem

On “Back to the Old House”
This is one of my favorite songs by The Smiths. One of the best lines is “and you never knew how much I really liked you.” It expresses the sad sentimentality you can feel for past homes and lost romance. I had a theory when
much younger that homosexuals like Morrissey are heart-broken heterosexuals.

“Last Words” by yours truly
“You’re planning to fight? A real tough guy?”
“You raised me to be tough.”
“I raised you to be strong.”
Dad’s last words were actually very kind.

Two poems
“Interest” by yours truly
Was speaking to a foreign woman online
Who said I was probably too old to procreate.
She may be right but don’t masturbate…now.
There is more in store.
Don’t ignore.
Show interest.
Interest rate.

“Whitest” by yours truly
Sky almost completely white today through clouds.
A bit of grey: could mean rain or snow.
I don’t know.
“Can’t explain.” –The Who
“Prayers for Rain”–The Cure
“In love for a little while”–Flock of Seagulls
Birds in flock like words in stock.
Still Winter chill in late March.
Just go inside.
Go inside.

A poem
“Frayed” by yours truly
My overcoat’s sleeves are frayed,
I’m afraid.
Have a mess but no maid.
What have we made?
Ski cap; take a nap.

On a sermon

The Church sermon today was basically a reminder that it is almost Easter now, Lenten time.
What does rebirth mean? It is the time of Spring like a beautiful Woman smiling and holding open hands up to the sky.
Nothing more to say.

One more poem

“Whiter” by yours truly
Whiter sky
Coming through in clouds:
Why oh why?
Bit of grey, bit of blue: who knew?
In this somewhat disaster
Is there an after?
It can get rather cold,
And you feel old.

Two more poems

“White Sky” by yours truly
White clouds today (come what may)
Slightly obscuring foothills still dusted in part with snow.
A bit of grey higher and blue behind in the West.
“Go farther West, old man.”
Until I am in Japan?

“Done” by yours truly
“Okay, it is done.
You had your fun. Now run!
Just kidding: stay.
It was okay in a way.”
“Sir Gal I had.”
“Or did she have you?”
